If the National ChipChecker is not finding a result for your equine's microchip number this would indicate that the microchip details are not recorded on the Central Equine Database (CED). There are a number of reasons why this may be the case.
It is a legal requirement upon owners to have their equine's microchipped and the details of this recorded on the CED. Also, until the microchip number is recorded on the CED, there will be no way for enforcement and/or welfare agencies to identify you as the owner of the equine if it gets loose or stolen to reunite you.
It is therefore very important that you contact the Passport Issuing Organisation (PIO) that issued the equine's passport to inform them that the microchip number is not appearing on the National ChipChecker. They may need you to confirm the microchip details if they need to update their records and the CED. (The PIO has up to 15 days to comply with your request after receiving all of the information they require).
A list of PIO's and their contact details can be found in this link Horse passport issuing organisations in Great Britain and Northern Ireland - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
