What to do if you horse has a food chain status of unknown

You should contact the Passport Issuing Organisation that issued your equine’s passport and discuss it with them or request that the equine is ‘Excluded’ from the food chain.

Leaving the food chain status as ‘Unknown’ could adversely affect the value of your equine if and when you come to sell it. Prospective buyers will check the National ChipChecker to see that the equine’s data is in order and matches what is written in its passport. Failure to have the records accurate could reduce the value of the equine and even cost you a sale.
